Dealing with Doubts - Keeping the Faith in Uncertain Times
Let’s Talk God ‘N’ Christ
Hello family! Welcome to Let’s Talk God ‘N’ Christ, where we dive deep into faith, life, and everything in between.
Let me ask you—have you ever felt like life threw you into the deep end, and you’re wondering, “God, where are You?” If that’s where you are right now, stay with me. Today, we’re talking about Dealing with Doubts: Keeping the Faith in Uncertain Times.
We’re drawing from Matthew 14:22-33, the story of Peter walking on water. But this isn’t just a Sunday school lesson—this is real life. And Peter? He’s just like you and me.
Peter’s Moment of Faith… and Fear
It’s late. The wind is howling. The disciples are in a boat, struggling against the waves. Then, out of nowhere, they see someone walking on the water. Of course, they freak out! Wouldn’t you? But then Jesus says, “Take heart! It is I; do not be afraid.”
Now, Peter—bold, impulsive Peter—responds, “Lord, if it’s really You, tell me to come to You on the water.” And Jesus says, “Come.”
And guess what? Peter steps out of the boat. He’s actually walking on water!
But then—the wind picks up, the waves crash, and Peter takes his eyes off Jesus. The moment he focuses on the storm instead of the Savior, he starts to sink.
Sounds Familiar?
We start strong in faith. We believe. We trust. But then—life happens.
The job doesn’t come through.
The relationship falls apart.
The doctor gives a bad report.
The bank account is running low.
And just like Peter, we shift our focus from Jesus to the storm.
But here’s the good news: the moment Peter cried out, “Lord, save me!”—Jesus IMMEDIATELY reached out and caught him.
How to Deal with Doubt
So, what can we learn from Peter when doubt threatens to drown us?
1. Keep Your Eyes on Jesus
Peter was fine as long as he focused on Jesus. The moment he looked at the waves, fear took over. Life will throw storms at you, but your job? Fix your eyes on Jesus. Not the problem. Not your feelings. On Jesus.
2. Don’t Be Afraid to Cry Out for Help
Peter didn’t try to swim back to the boat—he called out to Jesus. And that’s exactly what we need to do. When doubt creeps in, don’t keep quiet. Pray. Talk to God. Reach out to someone who can encourage you. There is strength in community!
3. Remember What God Has Already Done
Peter had seen Jesus perform miracles, yet in that moment, he forgot. And isn’t that just like us? God has come through before, but when a new challenge comes, we act like we’ve never seen Him move. Take a moment—what has God already done in your life? If He did it before, He will do it again.
4. Take Small Steps of Faith
Jesus told Peter, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” But at least Peter stepped out of the boat. Even with his doubts, he still moved. And that’s the key—keep going! Even if your faith feels small, use it. Even if you’re scared, trust Him.
Faith isn’t about having zero doubts—it’s about moving despite them.
Conclusion
Doubt is part of the faith journey. But the question is: Will you let doubt drown you, or will you reach out to Jesus?
No matter what you’re facing—storms, struggles, uncertainty—Jesus is right there, hand outstretched, ready to catch you. All you have to do is call on Him.
Let Us Pray
Father, thank You for always being with us, even in the storm. When doubts creep in, help us to fix our eyes on You. Remind us of Your faithfulness, and give us the courage to take steps of faith, even when it’s hard. Lord, we choose to trust You. We love You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Halleluyah! If this blessed you, share it with someone who needs encouragement.
