Drifting
WELCOME TO LET’S TALK GOD ‘N’ CHRIST
where we discuss real life, real faith, and how God’s truth can profoundly transform your world.
I'm your host, Gabriella Osamor, and I'm so excited to be with you today. I’ll be discussing drifting. Before we begin:
Let’s pray.
Father, it’s good to be in Your presence once again, seeking a better understanding of You and maturing in knowledge. Please help us Father to hold fast to what we learn so we don’t drift away from You. Thank You for our salvation. In Jesus name we have prayed. Amen.
Don’t Drift Away – Hold Firm to God’s Salvation
Our scripture reference is Hebrews 2:1–4
It reads:
"We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will."
Let’s talk.
This message is A Call to Pay Attention
The writer of Hebrews begins with urgency: “We must pay the most careful attention…”
This is not casual listening—it’s deliberate, intentional focus. It’s like tying a boat to the dock so it doesn’t drift with the tide.
Brethren, drifting doesn’t happen overnight. It happens slowly… when you skip prayer, when you leave your Bible unopened, when fellowship feels optional. Before you know it, your heart drifts far from God. And so, God calls us—pay attention.
This danger is real: The Danger of Drifting
Drifting is not about open rebellion—it’s about negligence. Nobody drifts toward God accidentally; drifting only carries us away from Him.
Picture a ship without an anchor. The waves don’t look threatening at first, but slowly, silently, they pull the vessel far from shore. That’s what happens when we neglect God’s Word, neglect praying, and obedience. Our anchor must be Christ, or else we drift into dangerous waters.
The Seriousness of God’s Word
The writer reminds us: if the Old Testament Law delivered through angels carried weight and brought consequences, how much more serious is the Gospel, delivered by the Son of God Himself?
This tells us: God’s Word is not suggestion—it’s truth. It is binding. Every word matters, and every command deserves obedience. Believers are expected to treat His Word with reverence, not casualness.
The Greatness of the Gift of Salvation
And then comes the piercing question: “How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?”
Oh, how great it is indeed!
Great because of its Source—announced by Jesus Himself.
Great because of its Cost—bought with the blood of the Lamb.
Great because of its Benefits—eternal life, forgiveness, reconciliation, and adoption into God’s family.
If we neglect this salvation, we despise God’s love. There is no escape from judgment apart from Christ. That’s why the call is urgent: Hold fast. Do not ignore. Do not drift.
Example of one who drifted and one who was steadfast and blessed.
HOSEA 13:1. “When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel. But he became guilty of Baal worship and died.
Epraim didn’t hold fast to the One True God. He turned to Baal and was cursed.
Abraham, on the other hand obeyed God. He was faithful and obedient. In Genesis 12: 1-3 God called on Abraham to leave his homeland and God promised; “I will bless you… and in you all families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Abraham remained firm and was blessed abundantly.
God’s Confirmation
Finally, God backed up His message with proof:
Signs, wonders, and miracles.
And the apostles witnessed.
Gifts of the Holy Spirit were poured out on every believer. In 1st Corinthians 12: 4-11, Apostle Paul lists out these gifts:
- Word of Wisdom.
- Word of Knowledge
- Faith
- Gifts of Healing
- Working of Miracles
- Prophecy
- Discerning of spirits
- Different kinds of tongues
- Interpretation of tongues
God left no doubt about the truth of this Gospel. We have both the outward witness of miracles and the inward witness of the Spirit. We are without excuse.
In Closing I Charge you Friends, Hebrews 2:1–4 lays out God’s expectations clearly:
Pay careful attention to your walk.
Stay anchored in Christ.
Treat His Word as binding truth.
Treasure your salvation—it is too great to neglect.
Live by the Spirit, empowered and guided daily.
Let me leave you with this reflection:
Am I anchored in Christ today, or am I slowly drifting?
And here’s your action step: This week, set aside intentional time daily for God’s Word and prayer. Anchor yourself in Him. Don’t let the tide of life carry you away.
Because child of God—our salvation is too great to ignore.
Let’s pray:
Lord, we thank You for this timely message that reminds us to hold firm to what we learn of You so we don’t drift away from You. Thank You for being our anchor. Please help us to hold firm and steady becoming Christ-like in Jesus most mighty name we ask. Amen.
I’m Gabriella Osamor, and this has been Let’s Talk God ’n’ Christ. Stay rooted, stay anchored, and keep walking in His grace. Until next time—God bless you!
