Dangers of Deception
LET’S TALK GOD ‘N’ CHRIST
TOPIC: DANGERS OF DECEPTION
OPENING PRAYER:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with humble hearts, seeking truth in a world full of noise.
Thank You for the gift of Your Word and the voice of Your Spirit that leads us into all truth.
Daddy, we ask that You open our eyes today; to see what You see, to discern what You reveal, and to surrender where we’ve unknowingly embraced lies.
As this episode unfolds, let every word spoken carry Your weight, pierce through confused hearts, and stir up our spirits to align with You, Lord.
Silence every voice of deception; whether from within, without, or around us, and help us to hear You clearly, to love You deeply, and to follow You fully.
In Jesus Matchless Name we pray, Amen.
Welcome to Let’s Talk God ‘N’ Christ. I’m your host, Ngozi Ndubisi, and today we’re taking a quiet walk into our hearts with this soul-searching episode titled “Dangers of Deception.”
This is not the obvious kind, it's the kind that hides in plain sight. The kind that feels right. Sounds spiritual. And even looks like light.
Today's edition is not a finger-pointing message; it’s a mirror moment. A moment to pause, take a deep breathe, and ask yourselves these salient questions:
- 1. Have I been walking in truth? Or
- 2. Am I unknowingly entertaining deception in some areas of my life? Like
a. In my spiritual life,
b. In my personally life, or even
c. In my social life?
We really need to uncover the layered dangers of deception in three areas of our lives, so that we can free ourselves from:
- I. false teachings masked as revelation,
- II. self-lies that keep us stuck to cultural norms that contradict God’s truths.
Listen, our greatest enemy works tirelessly to distort our God given spirit of discernment.
We need to very quickly do a heart check; because what we believe shapes how we live, and eternity is too long to live deceived.
What do I mean by “eternity is too long to live deceived?”
Deception might feel small or harmless in the moment, but if it causes us to live outside God’s truth, its consequences are eternal. Life on earth is temporary, but the decisions we make here: what we believe, whom we follow, how we live, impact our eternal destiny. So:
Don’t gamble with God's truth. Don’t stay comfortable in what feels good but leads you away from God; Because eternity doesn’t end, and the cost of being wrong about God, His grace, or salvation is far too high.
So my dears, wake up spiritually and live with Heaven in view.
- 1. DEFINITIONS OF DECEPTION: Let’s see what these different deceptions look like:
WHAT IS DECEPTION?
Deception is dangerous because it doesn’t announce itself. It’s subtle.
It wears a smile. It sounds reasonable. Sometimes, it even quotes Scripture out of context.
Deception is when truth is twisted just enough to sound right but leads us wrong. It can come through:
Teachings that elevate feelings over Scripture,
Voices that promise prosperity without submission,
Or even within ourselves, when we claim “God said” but never truly waited to hear from Him.
And in society—when culture redefines sin as love, and silence becomes the new definition of peace.
SPIRITUAL DECEPTION?
Is the most dangerous—because it uses God’s name without His voice.
In Matthew 24:4, Jesus warned us plainly: “Take heed that no one deceives you.”
Not every “revelation” is from God.
Not every preacher is sent.
Not every fire is Holy Ghost fire.
Deception sounds like truth—but with the salt removed.
It makes us emotionally high, but spiritually hollow.
This is why we must test every spirit (1 John 4:1) and stay rooted in the Word.
Ask yourself: Who is feeding me? What spirit is behind what I believe?
PERSONAL DECEPTION
Deception doesn’t stop at the pulpit… sometimes it lives inside of us.
Personal deception is when we lie to ourselves—because it’s easier than facing the truth.
We convince ourselves we’re okay.
We ignore the Holy Spirit’s nudge.
We excuse what God is trying to correct.
Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things…”
Beloved, it’s not about how you feel—it’s about what God says.
Today, let’s be honest:
Are you walking in the light… or hiding behind good behavior and spiritual language?
SOCIETAL DECEPTION
And then… there’s the deception of our generation.
Societal deception.
Culture now defines what’s right.
It celebrates what God calls sin.
It demands that we bend truth to stay relevant and “inclusive.”
But Romans 12:2 reminds us: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed…”
Society will tell you:
“Do what makes you happy.”
“Truth is personal.”
“God understands.”
But the cross doesn’t bend—it calls us to die.
Are you being shaped by Christ… or by the crowd?
What have you accepted just because everyone else is applauding? - 2. SIGNS YOU MIGHT BE DECEIVED
Take a quiet moment as you read these… Ask yourself honestly:
Am I more comfortable with my truth than God’s truth?
Do I ignore hard Scriptures that challenge my lifestyle?
Do I surround myself with people who only tell me what I want to hear?
When last did I ask the Holy Spirit to search me… and waited for His response?
2 Timothy 4:3 says, “For the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own desires, they will gather teachers to tickle their ears.”
Are we already in that time? - 3. WALKING IN TRUTH – THE WAY OUT
The opposite of deception isn’t suspicion—it’s DISCERNMENT.
And DISCERNMENT comes from staying anchored in the Word, in prayer, and in humble surrender. - 4. HERE’S HOW TO GUARD YOUR HEART:
Ask God for discernment daily. Pray with Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart…”
Stay in the Word even when it cuts deep.
Welcome correction. The truth doesn’t shame you—it saves you.
Stay teachable. Don’t idolize any voice, not even yours. Let God be true, and every man a liar (Romans 3:4).
Let’s unmask the cultural narratives shaping our beliefs, and then ask ourselves: Are we living by truth… or trending in deception?
Because knowing the difference is the key to staying free
This is your heart reflective check.
Not for shame. Not for guilt. But for realignment.
Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart…
To reveal any false peace you’ve made with lies.
Let’s not be the generation that looks godly… but lives deceived.
God help us.
LET’S PRAY …
Father of Light,
Thank You for exposing darkness and confronting deception with truth.
Thank You for the stirring in me the conviction, the clarity.
Lord, may this word not end as information—but become transformation.
Let it bear fruit in our daily walk, in our decisions, in our worship.
Where we’ve believed a lie, replace it with Your truth.
Where we’ve followed culture, help us return to Christ.
May we walk in discernment and stay anchored in Your Word,
always sensitive to Your Spirit,
and bold enough to choose righteousness over comfort.
Keep us watchful, keep us humble, keep us close.
In Jesus Name, Amen!
