Can this ever rise again?
Hello everyone, welcome again to Let's Talk God 'N' Christ.
I'm your host, Ngozi Ndubisi.
Let's Pray!
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for this moment and for every reader and listener tuned in today.
Father, You know the broken places in our lives, our stalled dreams, our fading passions, our relationships that feel dry, and our faith that sometimes wavers. Today, we ask for Your restoration. Speak to our hearts and remind us that what is broken can be rebuilt, what is dead can come alive again, and what feels lost can be found in You.
As we share Your Word, let Your Holy Spirit speak clearly, bringing hope, clarity, and renewal to us. Prepare our hearts to receive Your truth and give us the faith and courage to rebuild what has been broken.
This we pray in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
Today, we will be talking about starting afresh… starting anew.
Have you ever looked at a part of your life and felt… this used to be better than this?
Maybe it is your spiritual life.
Maybe it is your passion.
Maybe it is your work.
Maybe it is a dream you once had.
Maybe it is a relationship.
Maybe it is even your confidence in yourself.
Something that once stood strong… now feels broken.
Something that once had life… now feels dry.
And you are quietly asking:
"Can this ever rise again?"
To answer that question, we will look at a powerful story in the Book of Nehemiah Chapters 3 to 6, and then we will connect it to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
But this is not just a Bible story we are reading.
This is about you.
This is about that place in your life that feels broken…
that project you started and abandoned…
that dream that looks burnt like the gates of Jerusalem…
that business that once thrived but now struggles…
that passion for God that has gone cold…
Because the truth is, many of us are standing in front of "broken walls" in our own lives.
And just like Nehemiah, we are wondering,
"Can this ever be rebuilt?"
The beautiful answer we will discover today is this:
Yes. It can.
Not only can broken things be rebuilt…
dead things can come back to life.
And by the end of this episode, you will see clearly how God shows us through Nehemiah and through the Resurrection how to bring your life, your work, your vision, and even your faith… back to life again.
Rebuilding What Is Broken (Nehemiah 3)
Nehemiah saw when he arrived in Jerusalem, the walls were broken. The gates were burnt. The city felt hopeless.
But here's what amazed me about Nehemiah: he did not complain. He did not dwell on the problem. Instead, he mobilized people to rebuild.
Nehemiah 3:12 says:
"Shallum… repaired, he and his daughters."
Even his daughters were part of the rebuilding!
This teaches us that starting anew requires everyone to take responsibility.
Even you, in your own life, have a part to play. God doesn't rebuild your life for you without your cooperation. Just like Noah obeyed and built the ark (Genesis 6:14), God wants us to act in faith to see restoration begin.
TRANSITION:
Expect Resistance When You Start Again (Nehemiah 4:1–3)
The moment the rebuilding began, the critics came. The mockery started.
Nehemiah 4:2 says:
"What are these feeble Jews doing?"
The moment you try to rise again, to rebuild your career, your faith, your dreams, there will always be voices trying to push you back.
Remember when David wanted to face Goliath? Even his own brother criticized him (1 Samuel 17:28).
Resistance is often a sign that you are on the right path. The question is: will you keep going?
Prayer, Not Panic (Nehemiah 4:4)
Nehemiah could have panicked, argued, or given in. Instead, he prayed:
"Hear us, O our God, for we are despised…" (Nehemiah 4:4)
When starting afresh, don't react emotionally: Pray. Lean on God.
Think of Hannah, who poured out her heart in prayer when she was desperate (1 Samuel 1:10–11). God answered her prayer and gave her Samuel; her new beginning.
Work and Watch: Stay Focused (Nehemiah 4:17–18)
Nehemiah's team built with one hand and held a weapon with the other.
Rebuilding your life takes focus and vigilance. You can't fully relax while the enemy of distraction and fear is still at work.
Think of Joseph in Egypt. The worked diligently, but he also stayed spiritually alert through slavery, prison, and palace (Genesis 39).
A new beginning must be protected.
Deal with Internal Issues (Nehemiah 5)
The real danger didn't come from outside, it came from inside. Some were exploiting others, causing division and discouragement.
Nehemiah 5:7 says:
"I brought charges against the nobles…"
If you want a fresh start, deal with internal wrongs whether it's unforgiveness, bitterness, or poor habits.
Look at Zacchaeus he corrected his wrongs first (Luke 19:8) and then started afresh with a life full of generosity and purpose.
Refuse Distractions (Nehemiah 6:3)
The enemies tried to lure Nehemiah away from the work. But he said:
"I am doing a great work and I cannot come down." (Nehemiah 6:3)
When you start anew, many distractions will try to pull you back into old patterns. Don't come down.
Even Peter struggled with this after Jesus' resurrection. He returned to his old fishing nets (John 21:3), and Jesus had to redirect him to his true calling.
Reject Fear (Nehemiah 6:11 NLT)
"Should someone in my position run from danger?… No, I won't do it!"
Fear is designed to stop new beginnings.
Think of Esther, who risked her life to speak for her people:
Esther 4:16 — "If I perish, I perish." Courage opens the door for restoration.
Finish Strong (Nehemiah 6:15)
"So the wall was finished… in fifty-two days."
Starting afresh is not enough. You must finish strong.
Like Paul, who said:
2 Timothy 4:7 — "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Completion validates your new beginning.
From Rebuilding Walls to Rebuilding Lives: The Resurrection Connection:
Nehemiah rebuilt walls.
Jesus rebuilds lives.
Nehemiah refused distractions:
Nehemiah 6:3 — "I cannot come down."
Jesus was told:
Matthew 27:40 — "Come down from the cross."
He did not come down… so we could rise again.
Nehemiah declared:
Nehemiah 6:15 — "The wall was finished."
Jesus declared:
John 19:30 — "It is finished."
One finished a wall…
The other finished salvation.
Because Jesus rose: dead things can come back to life.
Old dreams, old faith, old relationships, even old talents — all can rise again.
2 Corinthians 5:17 — "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…"
Reflection for Listeners
What wall in your life needs rebuilding?
What fear is stopping you from starting again?
What distraction is calling you back to old patterns?
What inside you needs resurrection power?
Please remember, Nehemiah teaches us how to rebuild what is broken.
The Resurrection teaches us that we can be rebuilt.
So today… start afresh.
Start anew.
And so Gracious Father,
Thank You for reminding us that what is broken can be rebuilt and what feels dead can live again through Christ. Grant us the strength to start afresh, the courage to stay focused, and the grace to finish strong. Let Your resurrection power be evident in every area of our lives.
In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
