Series Title: Ageing in Grace: Living Fully as an Elderly Christian
EPISODE ONE
Devotion Over Distraction
Subtitle: Starting Each Day with God, Not WITH THE POST
Base Scripture: Psalm 5:3
My dear seasoned saints,
Let's take a stroll into today's reflection, shall we? Picture this: You wake up in the morning, sunlight is peeking through the curtains, birds are chirping softly outside, and your body is gently reminding you that you're not 25 anymore! Before your feet hit the floor, what's the first thing you reach for?
For many of us, it's the phone. We scroll through WhatsApp messages, Facebook updates, or maybe even breaking news headlines. Before we've even thanked God for another sunrise, we've fed our hearts with a diet of opinions, noise, and sometimes bad news.
But let's pause a moment. What if, instead of starting our day with "the post" - be it social media, a newspaper, or messages - we started each day with God?
Let's be honest: in this beautiful chapter of our lives, we're not in a rush to catch a bus or juggle toddlers. That means we can choose stillness. We can choose depth. We can choose devotion. And oh, how powerful that is!
Psalm 5:3 says,
"In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
In the morning, I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly."
Starting our day with God isn't about ticking a religious box. It's about connection. It's about anchoring our hearts before the world pulls us in a hundred different directions. It's whispering, "Thank You, Lord, for breath in my lungs." It's opening the Bible or a devotional instead of the news app.
And no, you don't have to read five chapters of the Bible before breakfast. Even one verse - one meaningful moment with God - can strengthen your spirit more than a thousand scrolls through WhatsApp chats.
Think of it this way: The world tells us what's happening. But only God tells us what matters.
So, dear friend, tomorrow morning, before reaching for the phone or the paper, take a breath. Whisper a prayer. Read a Psalm. Sing an old hymn softly to yourself. Talk to your Heavenly Father, who has walked with you all these years.
He's not done with you yet.
Let the first voice you hear be His. Let His peace wrap around you like a warm shawl. Let His Word guide your thoughts before anything else enters your mind. And as you do this, day by day, you'll notice something beautiful: more calm, more clarity, and more closeness to the One who loves you most.
God still writes your story. So start each page of your day with Him.
LET'S PRAY
Thank You Heavenly Father, for upholding us in this season of life. Help us understand that we've not been left out, but can remain useful by being there for the younger generation.
Help us pass down our experiences so they can learn from them. Thank You for enriching our lives with such beauty.
To You alone be every praise, Father, in Jesus' mighty name.
Amen.
I remain your host
